Black Star Pastry’s signature – the Strawberry Watermelon Cake, which propelled the bakery café to almost-international fame. It’s one of those places that if you’ve been to, you’ll either conclude it’s awesome or overhyped. If you haven’t been, it’s one of those places you’ve heard plenty about and always want to go someday.
It consists of two layers of almond dacquoise, rose-scented cream whipped like there’s no tomorrow, the layers of fresh watermelon. The topping is fresh strawberries, pistachios and dried rose petals. You should know now that rose petals are edible. 🙂
In a word it’s amazing. It’s odd to imagine the crispy watery watermelon going well with a cake but it just works.
And yet, it is rather pricey. We are paying AUD 32 for a cake for 4 persons serving. Besides cake, they also offer drinks.
